Breaking News A66 upgrade gets green light

The A66 upgrade has today recived the go ahead with the decision delegated by the Secretary of State to the Minister of State, Huw
Merriman.
The announcment of the decision today states the Secretary of State is content that the Proposed Development is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project
The granting of the development order is expected to see work commence withing weeks on the long awaited dualling of the A66 from Scotch Corner to J40 including the creation of an underpass at Kemplay roundabout.
Spiralling costs had caused concerns the project may be scaled back or cancelled after the secretary of state delayed the decision last year. But todays announcement will see the full planned upgrade delivered over the next 5 years.
